Wood chipping is the conversion of boughs and branches of felled trees into wood chips. Wood chipping and branch shredding are used where branches have already been cut and need to be reduced into a manageable size for removal, disposal or reuse on site on mulching applications. This is typically carried out on site following tree work or clearance, where branches and brash need to be reduced for handling or removal. If you have a pile of branches or brash already cut and requiring processing or removal, we can carry out wood chipping and branch shredding on site.

Wood chipping and branch shredding may be required where trees have been pruned, reduced or removed, whether the work has been carried out by a tree surgeon or by the customer. This allows branches and brash to be processed on site prior to removal or reuse. We remove chippings as part of our service but let us know if you’d prefer to keep them. Chips are useful in mulching applications, for spreading under trees, to keep weeds down and to recycle nutrients back into the soil. Note that fresh wood chips are typically unsuitable for immediate spreading among beds and young shrubs – they will need to break down before this type of use.
Unsuitable Material
In relation to wood chipping, please note that non-green, soiled and contaminated material may not be processed through the wood chipper. This includes, but is not limited to, invasive weed species, clay, sand, soil, earth, roots, stump wood, stone, wire, steel, glass, treated timber, fibrous grasses, plastics, refuse, mown grass trimmings, material treated with herbicides, excessively decomposed material and leafy sweepings which may contain grit etc.
If any pile of brash or timber is known to contain any of the above materials, please report it to the operator for their safety.
Contaminated material cannot be processed through the wood chipper or removed from site as wood chip.
Note that it may still be possible to have non-chippable material removed depending on volume and material type. If required, please let us know and details can be discussed on the day.
Branch Arrangement
Access and positioning of machinery will depend on the specifics of your site and the volume of material present. Contact us on 0851775500 to discuss branch cutting and stacking methods which when carried out correctly should help to streamline the branch removal process.
