Quotes and Pricing

How much does tree work cost?

Every job is different, so we provide free, no-obligation estimates. Contact 0851775500 to get the ball rolling. The cost depends on the size and species of the tree, access to the site, and the type of work required. To help us give you an accurate estimate quickly, please include in your text:

  • Your Eircode and full address
  • A brief description of what needs doing
  • A photo if possible (WhatsApp to 085 177 5500 or attach to your email)

Sometimes a rough estimate can be drawn from photos alone, saving you the wait for a site visit however a physical visit will be necessary to provide a formal estimate.

Is there a call-out charge for quotes/estimates?

No. Estimates and site visits (if available) are free of charge.

Service Area

What areas do you cover?

We primarily serve South County Dublin and North County Wicklow, including:

  • Dublin: Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire, Dalkey, Killiney, Shankill, Cabinteely, Foxrock, Stillorgan, Dundrum, Rathfarnham, Churchtown, Goatstown, Stepaside, Leopardstown, Sandyford, Deansgrange, Monkstown, Sandymount, Ballinteer
  • Wicklow: Bray, Enniskerry, Greystones

We do take on work outside this area on a case-by-case basis. If you are in a different part of Dublin or Wicklow, feel free to enquire and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Tree Pruning and Trimming

When is the best time to prune trees?

This question does not have a one-size-fits-all answer. Certain trees are best pruned during winter dormancy (late November to early spring), and others are better pruned at varying times during the growing season. Different tree species often have differing specific requirements. We are happy to advise on timing for your particular trees.

Can you reduce the height of a tree without removing it?

Yes, in many cases we can. Crown reduction and level-resetting are some of our most common services. With a crown reduction we aim to reduce the height and spread of a tree while maintaining its form. This is often the preferred option when a tree has outgrown its space but you want try your best to keep it. See our tree pruning page for more details.

My neighbour’s tree is overhanging my garden. Can you cut it back?

Yes. You have the legal right to cut back branches that overhang your property, up to your side of the boundary line without overstepping the boundary. We carry out this type of work regularly. It is worth having a friendly word with your neighbour first, but it is not legally required. See our overhanging branch cutting service.

Tree Removal

Can you remove a tree completely?

Yes. We dismantle and remove trees of all sizes, including the removal of all branches and timber. We can also arrange stump grinding at the same time if required.

Do I need permission to remove a tree?

In most cases, you do not need permission to remove a tree on your own property, unless it is covered by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or is in a conservation area. If you are unsure, your local council can advise. We can also help you check before any work begins.

Can you remove a dangerous or storm-damaged tree?

Yes. We offer an emergency tree removal service for trees that have been damaged by storms or are posing an immediate safety risk. In the event we are not actively available we will endeavour to refer you to an alternative service.

Hedge Cutting

Do you cut and remove hedges?

Yes. We offer both hedge trimming (reducing height and width) and complete hedge removal, including stump grinding if needed. This applies to all hedge types, including leylandii, laurel, privet, and beech. See our hedge cutting page.

When can hedges be cut?

Under the Wildlife Act, hedgerows should not be cut during bird nesting season (1 March to 31 August). Re-trimming annual growth of garden hedges on your own property is generally ok, but resetting hedge level/depth and hedge removal must wait until after 1st September. We always check for active nests before starting work – and postpone if anything is discovered. Please note that our personal choice is not to interfere with active nests irrespective of nesting season window, meaning both early and late nesters are safe when choosing Crown Tree Services.

Stump Grinding

Can you remove a tree stump?

Yes. We use an ancillary stump grinding service to grind the stump below ground level. The arisings (resulting wood chips and soil) are typically in situ. Contact for more information and see our stump grinding page.

Can you remove tree roots as well?

Stump grinding removes the main root plate to a depth of about 20–30cm below ground level. Surface roots in the immediate area can be ground out too. Roots further afield will decay naturally over time.

Wood Chipping and Free Wood Chips

Do you offer wood chipping services?

Yes. We can chip branches and green waste on site. This is often included as part of a tree pruning or removal job. If you have your own cut material that needs chipping, we can arrange that too. See our wood chipping page.

Can I get free wood chips?

We do offer free wood chip delivery in the Dublin 18 and North Bray area, subject to availability. Please note:

  • Availability depends on our current workload; there is no guarantee of supply
  • Chips are fresh (not composted) and will need time to break down before use around plants
  • The delivery area must be accessible for our truck with level ground and no overhead obstructions
  • Deliveries outside Dublin 18 and North Bray may incur a transport charge

Contact us to check current availability.

Availability and Booking

How far in advance do I need to book?

This varies with the season and workload. Winter and summer tend to be our busiest periods. For routine work, we typically aim to schedule within a few weeks however this may not always be possible. A limited cancellation list may also be available during very busy periods, please enquire by calling 0851775500. Winter and summer pruning windows can book-out early so it is advisable to book well in advance in order to avail of an appointment during the optimal pruning window for your tree. Tree dismantling can generally take place at any time of the year. Emergency work is typically prioritised. Contact us for current availability or to discuss the wait-list.

Can I send photos before a site visit?

Absolutely, and we encourage it. Many jobs can be quoted from photos alone, which saves time for everyone. You can send photos by:

  • WhatsApp: 085 177 5500
  • Email: info@crowntreeservices.ie

Include your Eircode and a brief description of what you need done.
